Flamingo Workshop
Chester Zoo
Thursday 23rd July 2026
Join ABWAK and Chester Zoo for the sixth ABWAK Flamingo Keepers’ Workshop. At this workshop you will learn about current developments to husbandry, enclosure design and management for these perennially popular birds. This workshop is designed for all keepers and other animal care focussed staff that work with flamingos in zoos, bird gardens, safari parks or in private aviculture.

There will be opportunities to learn from the Bird Team at Chester Zoo as they take delegates around their two flamingo aviaries, including the new development in “Heart of Africa”.

Topics to be covered include:
-
Novel research in flamingo health and welfare
-
Conservation of in situ populations
-
Good storytelling and interpretation for public engagement
-
Husbandry and management of flamingos in different styles of enclosures

ABWAK workshops are a great opportunity to network, and learn from other flamingo keepers, sparking ideas that you can take away and implement at your own facility. The workshop will include a walk-and-talk around Chester Zoo’s two flamingo exhibits with plenty of networking opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills in flamingo husbandry.
